Yesterday we were learning about hot air balloons. We did experiments to find out what made them float.
Experiment 1
We put a balloon on top of an empty bottle and put the bottle into hot water.
Some people thought the balloon was going to pop.
Some people thought nothing was going to happen.
One person thought the balloon would fill up with air.
What happened
The hot air filled up the balloon. We learnt a new word inflate.
Experiment2
We put the bottle into ice water.
Most people thought the balloon would go down.
What happened
The balloon started to go down because the air was cooling. We learnt another new word deflate.

We are wondering why the balloon did not deflate quickly. We are going to find out how the hot air balloons deflate.

  1. Tumata says: Our balloon didn't deflate quickly because it still had too much hot air. Hot air balloons have flaps on top to let the hot air out.The pilot pulls the cords to open the flap and let out the air. They let it out slowly.
