Samosas

On Funday Friday we made samosas with the potatoes from our garden.
First we peeled the potatoes and then we cut them up into little cubes. We cut up the onions too and put them in the pan to cook. we put in the potatoes and the peas and the chickpeas and cooked them.
After that we cut the pastry into squares and spooned on the potato mix. Then we brushed the edges of the pastry with milk. We folded it over and pinched the edges.
We cooked them in the oven and then we ate them. They were yummy.

2014 Gardening

Gardening
Yesterday we went to the garden it was messy because all the weeds had grown huge during the holiday!
We pulled all of the weeds out and put them in the compost.
It took a long time but we found potatoes and stink bugs, shield bugs and preying mantis. Cindy, Sheyne, Legacy and Waimania took lots of photos.

ELECTRICITY

Monday 2nd September
We can make light bulbs shine. We had 2 wires and we joined the wires from the bulb to each end of the battery. It is called a CIRCUIT. We drew a picture of our circuit and then we made a circuit with 2 lights.
A circuit with 1 light.

Wednesday 4th September
Today we made the light bulb shine and then we used a switch to turn the light on and off. The switch breaks the connection / circuit so the power doesn't get to the light bulb.
It wasn't easy we had to try many ways until we got it working.
This is our switch turned on. If we want the light out the switch handle is straight up.

Next we made a city.
We made the city with lots of cardboard boxes.

We have switches so that our lights can be turned off and on.

Today we are having an open day so our whanau can come and see what we have been doing at school.

Our parents came to look and we showed them our city, the Sky Tower and the cruise ship and our blog.
We showed our  whanau and fans how to switch the lights of the buildings off and on.
We showed them our Sky Tower lights.

Our parents thought our city was stupendous and we had done a good job.
We visited the other classes and look at what they had made.

Making flowers.
Today we have been making flowers. We made the flowers with cup cake papers. We used the hot glue gun to stick the paper on to the ice block sticks. We decorated our flowers with little tiny beads, love hearts, a seahorse, coloured cotton balls and we put bugs and butterflies on them. And then we sprinkled glitter on top of the petals. Last of all we glued on our leaves. We took a photo of all of us.

School Overnight Camp

This year we had a sleep over at school. The seniors had tents on the field and the juniors slept in Room 1.
We had great fun. On thursday we went to Karangahake Gorge. In the tunnel we were excited and made heaps of NOISE. When we were quiet we saw a few glow worms on the roof of the tunnel. We saw the Safety holes that the workers had to jump into when a train came.
We played with the rocks seeing who could throw hard out.
The rocks were fun, we created pictures with chalk.
After lunch we had a treasure hunt and we took our gold to the BANK and got a crunchy bar.

The Hedgehogs.

Steve came to school to show us the hedgehogs. The hedgehogs have spikes to keep safe from predators. They roll into balls when they are scared.
They hide in holes , underneath wood and under the bushes.
Hedgehogs like to eat snails and slugs and snakes and they eat worms and cat food. Steve said they will eat anything. They eat heaps of things.
Kael named the baby hedgehog Rapunzel and the other one is called Spike.
A baby hedgehog is called a hoglet.
The hedgehogs made sniffing and hissing sounds. Sometimes they grunt and grumble and snuffle.
I'm itchy I have to scratch!
Yum yum the hedgehog is nibbling on the carpet.
